Abdominal Pain, Ovarian Cysts, And Divorce: The True Story Real Life Connection

ovarian cysts, infertility, surgery

It is rare to get divorced because of abdominal pain. It isn’t even a cause for divorce in most countries. However, according to Yahoo News, one Saudi woman was an exception. A visit to the doctor ended up causing her husband to divorce her. And if you are thinking that it us one of those cases of extreme injustices to women, it isn’t. Here is how it happened.

Al-Einezi was 27 years old. She had a husband and a daughter. Abdominal pains were nothing unusual for her. She was a woman and the pain kind of came with the territory. But when the pain persisted, she decided to visit the doctor. Just one of those is-it-really-normal checks.

On arrival at Hail General Hospital, she was admitted with the doctor’s diagnosis being that she was suffering from ovarian cysts. It was common, the doctor told her. But her case was serious, he said. And so he recommended a small surgical procedure.

Three days later, after the small procedure that the doctor had recommended, Al-Einezi started suffering from extreme abdominal pains. So, she went back to the hospital. And that is when the she learnt that the doctor had removed not just one, but two of her ovaries. It was utter shock for the 27 year old.

"I broke down when he broke the news to me. When my husband learned about it, he immediately divorced me," Al-Eneizi said.

So, what was the doctor’s excuse? Aging of all things! He said that the existence of the ovarian cysts would have disrupted her hormonal balance and caused premature aging. If you are thinking that that is a stupid excuse, it is. And even if it were valid, as an investigation later revealed, her ovarian cyst problem could have been solved by simply removing one of her ovaries.

Thanks to one incompetent doctor. And thanks to medical professionals who think that surgery is a solution to every ovarian cyst symptom, a woman’s life was turned upside down.

A medical commission found the doctor to have been on the wrong. And although the decision was made in her favor, the compensation that she received was not even close to the pain and suffering that she ended up suffering. Her marriage was over. Her hopes for more children dashed. And as if that was not enough, she had to give up her right to alimony, just so that she could have custody of her daughter.

It is sad. A simple case of ovarian cysts that might have been cured by natural methods, caused a woman to be infertileAnd what makes it even sadder is the fact that the silly doctor has appealed the decision of the Commission. What an imbecile!
