Having ovarian cysts and pregnancy at the same time can
pose quite a challenge to both a woman and her pregnancy. It can sometimes lead
to complications that are threatening both to the life of the woman and that of
the unborn child. Growths in a woman’s ovaries can also affect the chances of
conception. The following are pregnancy complications that can develop as a
result of having cysts on ovaries.
1.Stunted Physical
And Mental Development
Cystic growths on a pregnant woman’s ovaries can result
in problems when it comes to the physical and mental development of a child. This
is usually the case where large cysts develop in a woman’s ovaries such that
the fetus does not have enough space to properly develop. This can lead to
deformities that will affect the quality of life that a child will end up
living.
A child’s development inside the womb may also be
affected by drugs that a pregnant woman may take so as to eliminate cysts. Some
of these drugs usually have negative long-term side effects on brain
development. They may also end up affecting the development of major organs.
2.Ectopic
pregnancy
Cysts on ovaries sometimes end up blocking the fallopian tube.
Chocolate cyst bursts can sometimes lead to the release of the contents of an
endometrioid ovarian cyst into the fallopian tube.
This may result in scarring,
something that will affect the movement of the egg after fertilization. This can
thus lead to an ectopic pregnancy.
3.Miscarriage
This happens as a result of having large ovarian cysts
and pregnancy at the time. The large cysts and the baby therefore usually
compete for space within the female reproductive system. Where a growth is too
large, it can sometimes cause a buildup of pressure within the womb and thus resulting
into the loss of a baby through a miscarriage.
4.Early
Labor
Pelvic pain, which is one of its symptoms, can sometimes be
too excruciating such that it triggers early labor. This however usually
happens only in cases where complex cysts have developed inside a woman’s
ovaries.
5.Death Of
Baby
This happens when cysts on ovaries affect the fetal
development. A ruptured cyst can cause infections that can lead to the death of
an unborn child. The growths can also interfere with the blood supply to the fetus
and thus causing its suffocation. This is however a rare condition.
6.Difficulty
Getting Pregnant
This is a more common condition so far as complications
of ovarian cysts and pregnancy go. It may be due to the blockage of the fallopian
tubes thus making conception almost impossible. It can also occur when a woman’s
ovaries get damaged as a result of ovarian torsion or in case of a cyst burst.
Infections of the uterine wall, which can result from cystic complications, may
also make implantation difficult and thus leading to pregnancy difficulties.
7.Permanent
Infertility
Infertility is a complication of ovarian cysts and pregnancy
that can result when both ovaries of a woman get destroyed. The complete
blockage of both fallopian tubes can also make conception impossible. A procedure
such as hysterectomy, which is intended for the removal of cysts from ovaries,
is also a guarantee of permanent infertility.
