Ovarian cysts can sometimes have surprising effects on a
woman’s body. As a 57-year-old woman was to later find out, in addition to the signs
and symptoms commonly associated with cysts, a cyst can also cause a rapid
increase in a woman’s waistline, something that can sometimes prove fatal.
As reported by LiveScience, it all started with a feeling
of heaviness around the belly. This was in addition to breathing difficulties.
This led to a consistent increase in her waistline. She was then forced to
report the case to her doctor, and what the doctors found out was more
surprising.
An ultrasound revealed that she had a cyst which had
grown so large to an extent that it had pushed her uterus to the side. Her
abdominal contents had been squished and the cyst had even gone to the extent
of pressing against her diaphragm. The large size of the cyst necessitated
surgery.
The surgery that the woman underwent was successful. The
cyst turned out to be a which later revealed the cyst to have been a mucinous
cystadenomas, one which is filled with mucous. Its size was a rare 16.5-inch by
15.7-inch by 11-inch (42 cm by 40 cm by 28 cm) which weighed as much as 40kgs.
